A local chain store, who has been supporting Helping Hand with goods since its inception 15 years ago, called us with a request. “We have ten pallets of pasta that need to be moved, there are roughly ten thousand kilos, and we were wondering if you would take some of it off our hands and distribute it to those in need. Just tell us how much you can handle.” After counseling together, and making sure we had enough space to store it, we decided to take the entire amount. The next day a huge truck pulled up to our mission and for the next few hours we were all busily unloading and stacking boxes.
Only a few days later a local retail store phoned us and asked if we could come and pick up some non-perishable food items right away. (This store usually gives us fresh produce and bread for our soup kitchens) As we drove up we saw a pallet full of canned goods which, upon closer inspection, turned out to be a thousand cans of pasta sauce! How fitting! When we thanked the store manager for the pasta cause and told him that we had just been given ten thousand kilos of pasta he raised his hands, pointed up and said; “He knows.” We agree, He sure does!
