As family and friends gathered together to enjoy the Christmas meal, we opened our home to those who had no one with whom to celebrate and share this special event.
While we were putting the finishing touches on the turkey and gravy, the homeless began arriving at our gate.
Volunteers joined us and helped serve food, pack parcels, and put toys together, as everyone took their seats at the table prepared for them in the garden.
The meal was enjoyed by all and the atmosphere was somewhat of a miracle in itself. Rather than it being like a feeding scheme or a soup kitchen, it had the feel of a royal banquet. As indeed it was; a celebration of the birth of the King of kings, and a feast enjoyed by his subjects. The rough people from unfortunate circumstances behaved like lords and ladies and the conversation was lively and centered on the Lord and His wonderful love for us all.
A special touch of love was the beautiful doll the Lord supplied for the only child that was there. A little homeless girl who accompanied her mother to the meal was thrilled to receive this Christmas gift – quite possibly the only one she had been given.
The Christmas spirit was powerful that day, as we ate, talked, laughed, and celebrated Jesus Great Love together!
