CoViD-19 Aid: Marking Progress Two Months In

As we all face great uncertainty about the future on top of months of restrictions, we thought it would be encouraging to share what the Lord has accomplished so far. It has been estimated that about a quarter of South African households (not limited to informal settlements!) are without money to buy food, and unemployment is projected to rise up to 50% following the pandemic and lockdown. This is absolutely heartbreaking, and as followers of Christ, we feel compelled to do what we can, even if it seems little in the face of overwhelming need. We have been continuing our collection and distribution of fresh foods and goods during lockdown – while observing all possible practices for hygiene and social distancing for the protection of ourselves and others. To date (since March 26th) we have distributed over 10 200kg of fresh food – meat, dairy, fruits, vegetables, and bread, plus staples like rice, flour, sugar, tins, maize, tissue paper, hygiene essentials, and more!

A basic breakdown

  • 1250+ aid parcels distributed
  • 900+ Activated Gospel magazines given out
  • We sewed and distributed 400+ cloth masks
  • In addition to individual parcels, projects such as soup kitchens, elderly care homes, orphanages, creches, and farm community food drives have been assisted 5-6 days a week.
  • We have personally recorded inspirational audio messages and sent them to over 1300 individuals daily (more than 78 000 people reached since March 26th)
  • We continue to hold nightly prayer vigil as a team, as we have done for years. We have seen wonderful and powerful answers to prayer, and know that prayer is a major part of upholding our country and others in these tough times!

One day at a time, one person, one family, one community, one goal – Love and Hope in the midst of need and chaos.
