Mission Road Trip

(At the invitation of a farmer in Ladismith, Chris and Mike went out, witnessing all the way. Here’s their feedback from the trip.)

We left Wednesday morning, and drove up to Worcester, visiting and ministering to a few friends and people we’d met on previous occasions. Then, we headed to Ceres. We met with a local pastor and his team, to discuss a project they had just started, and give them much-needed encouragement. After this, we had a little extra time before our next appointment, so we prayed and decided to just witness on the streets. Not even an hour of witnessing later, we had had some good conversations, prayed for a couple people, and ran into a young community leader who, just minutes earlier, had expressed a desire to his friend to meet some missionaries and learn to serve God better. And there we were! We’re staying in touch with him.

We stayed the night in Ceres with a good friend and his family, having a wonderful time fellowshipping and discussing God’s Word – as well are just enjoying each other’s company.

The next morning, he took us to his office to speak and pray with one of his employees who was facing some major challenges. We did, and had a inspired time together, emboldening him to just keep trusting God and doing what he can, day by day.

Now, on through Robertson, and then Ashton. In a farm outside Ashton, we met a lovely woman (who, together with her husband, Mike has been following up on for several years) and updated each other on what God was doing in our lives. In the process, we told her of a soup kitchen we are trying to start up next to a community library. She suddenly exclaimed “oh, I have a large pot you could use to make the soup in! Let me get it.” Moments later, she returned with a 45L cooing pot – perfectly suited to our needs! This was just another beautiful confirmation of God’s leading and guiding all the way, and providing from the most unlikely places – all the way out in Ashton, for a soup kitchen in Cape Town!

Now, we headed up to Ladismith, and upon arrival, spend a blessed evening around the braai with our friend -the farmer who invited us – speaking of the Lord and sharing testimonies of our respective lives. The next morning at sunrise, we joined him and his employees for their weekly Friday worship, singing, praying, and hearing a devotional message. It was beautiful because it is time set aside for Jesus, and even through it cuts into work hours, our friend doesn’t care. In fact he purposely does it on a Friday, so that God gets priority even in the workplace, not only the weekend. Then he invited us to each say a few words. We encouraged them that each of us has our own “cross” to bear, and God loves each of us equally. We must just follow Him step by step and read His Word. The rest will follow. After the meeting finished, our friend’s son approached us, and asked “would you also like to speak at a school?” We hadn’t actually planned to, but said “sure!” “Good,” he said, “because my wife is a teacher at the school here. I’ll try to work it out with her for you to come speak to the kids.”

A couple hours later, we were able to speak to nearly 200 children, sharing with them the story of the 100 sheep, of whom one was lost, and how the shepherd left the 99 sheep and searched for the lost one. Then we asked “did the shepherd want that lost sheep because it was the strongest, smartest, or most beautiful? No, he wanted him because EACH sheep was important to the shepherd, and he loved them all. Then, together with the teacher, we gave an altar call. Almost all the children prayed with us right there to accept Jesus as their Saviour! The teacher was thrilled, and so were we!

Then she invited us to sing a song with the children, so we did a simple action song, all about the joy of Salvation bubbling over in our lives. The kids loved it, and sang with all their hearts!

Invigorated from such wonderful miracles, we hit the streets, and walked all over Ladimith, ministering and speaking to whoever would listen. More decisions for Jesus were made, Bibles were distributed, and many personal requests were prayed for, on the spot. We were even able to leave Gospel tracts and Activated magazines at the police station and the library – which they were most grateful for! We are looking forward to more followup and spiritual growth for those that came to Jesus during the outreach!

Total: 209 decisions for Jesus! Also many Activated magazines, Bibles, and 800 Gospel tracts.

All in all, it was a trip of joyous miracles – open doors, and fun! We are so thankful for each of you who made it possible through your prayers and support, and know that you share in the eternal rewards of lives changed! Praise God!
