Street Outreach and Market Evangelism – Christmas in the Netherlands

(Suzanne and her son Caleb have been very busy this Christmas season; witnessing on the streets and at Christmas markets in order to share the Love of Jesus with as many as possible! God bless them! Here are a few pictures and a testimony from them.) While going from door to door, raising support for Helping Hand and leaving a touch of Jesus’ love wherever possible, I was starting to meet more and more Polish people, who have come to the Netherlands because of the poor economic situation in their country. It’s evident that the Polish community in the Netherlands is quite large, as cars with a Polish number plate have become a very common sight on the road. There are even shops that sell exclusively Polish groceries. In October, a Polish man bought a Mottos for Success inspirational calendar in Dutch, to improve his language skills and also out of appreciation for the work in Africa, which he was very happy to support. About a month later I met someone who told me he would gladly take a calendar from me, especially if they would be available in Polish. After some research I found out the “Mottos for Success” do exist in Polish also, and ordered a small box. Meanwhile, a number of weeks had passed, so my second visit, with the Polish product in hand, came as quite a surprise. The couple was very touched, though, that I’d gone to the trouble of searching for a calendar in their mother tongue, and really appreciated the beautiful quotes accompanied by impressions of Poland. Their reaction was very encouraging indeed to try to reach out to more of their countrymen. Christmas in the Netherlands – A Little Love Goes a Long Way

(From Suzanne and Caleb) Like last year, we prepared a little sweet surprise and wrote a Christmas card for the residents of a nursing home in our street, which we handed to them along with an inspiring Christmas story. Visibly moved, the seniors received this humble gift, showing so evidently that a little bit of love truly goes a long way. Due to financial difficulties, the home will have to close down in 2015, so we were very glad that we were able to reach out to our neighbours once more this Christmas and give them a little reminder of God’s great love for them.

Let the Children Come…

Over 200 children gathered in a small hall in Scotsdene and attended our Christmas party. While there, we were able to explain the real meaning of Christmas to them and pray with each child. Their little eyes opened wide as they saw the presents being handed out. Beautiful dolls, trucks, games, tea-sets; one by one each toy found its way into a little child’s arms. We also handed out fresh bread and sweeties to all the children for a very Merry Christmas!

Clothes, Toys, and Food for Christmas

Christmas came to the hundreds of residents of the Klipheuwel informal settlement! As parents saw our vans full of toys, sweeties, and food parcels drive into the settlement they excitedly called their children. “Christmas is here, Christmas is here!”, they shouted. We had enough toys and games for all the children, and of course the event would not have been complete without yummy sweets. Even all the adults were able to get food and special treats. There was plenty for everyone! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED TOYS, FOOD, DRIED FRUIT AND SWEETS! You made this Christmas one to remember for the many, many disadvantaged residents of this township.

Breakfast for Women in Crisis

God bless the manager of a local hotel, who donated a delicious meal for the women of the New Life Centre. This home for women in crisis does an excellent job, and we were glad that the house mother of the centre was also able to join us. Each of the girls was given a hamper with beauty products and other goodies, and the event was a lot of fun for everyone!

CCFM Radio

Three of us joined Francois on CCFM radio to speak about what the Lord has done this past year and give a City Update on our various humanitarian projects. This is an excellent way to reach many people across Cape Town with the message of God’s Love and salvation!
