We all know that investing in the future by educating our children is of the utmost importance. Thanks to special sponsorship we were able to give character-building educational packages to many little students, as well as an assortment of educational games and activities. We spent time going through the books and puzzles with the children, as well as doing crayon drawings with eager young “artists!” For the teachers, there was a beautiful set of interactive audio-visual training material.
Once a week, some of us give a morning devotions for women in crisis. We read inspirational material, watch motivating and Biblical videos, discuss issues, and pray together. Although it takes time and effort to gain the girls’ trust and interest, many of them have eventually accepted Jesus into their lives through these meetings! Also important, the centre offers skills training and placement programs, which help ensure these women a positive future. (Note: faces blurred to protect privacy)
Hundreds of families from this township received aid in the form of food parcels. We were able to fill their bags with pasta, bread, oranges, bananas, carrots, and apples! Each person also received a simple Gospel pamphlet, along with a smile.
Early this morning, three of us participated in the 21km “Gun Run” in Cape Town. We joined tens of thousands of other runners and walkers in this fun, unifying event!
Here you see some of the foodstuffs – both fresh fruit, veg, and bread, and also non-perishables such as pasta, tins, etc – which were distributed recently.
Our team of five youth (13-18yrs) and three overseers had a wonderful, busy, and exciting time at the Hermanus Whale Festival last weekend. The weather was perfect, and many people were encouraged by the message of love and simple Salvation portrayed through the youth and Gospel material. Some of the statistics: 4900 Gospel pamphlets distributed 45 Decisions for Jesus 14 Bibles given to those in need of one Dozens of Gospels of John and many Activated magazines handed out To add to this, we were able to pray for, converse with, and exchange details with a large number of festival attendees. We also got to see quite a few whales! God bless our youth for stepping out to spread the message, and God bless those who made it possible.
We are in the process of sorting these pallets of food in preparation for distribution. Many, many people will recieve a meal parcel from these foodstuffs.
The youth and first graders of Helping Hand celebrate the completion of their year of school. What an exciting time – moving into a new year of learning and discovery!
