Youth Day – Warm Soup, Blankets, Raincoats, Scarves, and More!

For this cold and wet winter’s Youth Day, we drove around the neighbourhood with special gifts ready! Two large pots of soup were loaded into the van, as well as winter clothing items. Each homeless person we met was the grateful recipient of a steaming bowl of soup, a scarf, cap, and blanket, and to round it off, a waterproof winter jacket! Each was also given a Gospel tract with a simple Salvation message. One group of “friends” united in poverty immediately began eating their soup, and thanked us profusely. Then, when the youth volunteers returned a second time from the van with the clothing items, their astonishment knew no bounds. One of the men held his new jacket at arms length and felt the material, exclaiming again and again “this is a real winter jacket! Look, it’s waterproof!” Another man rose up from his makeshift bed in a corner between two buildings, and we were shocked to see that he had on only a tshirt and an old tattered pair of pants. We were nearly moved to tears as we realized yet again how blessed we are, and how much we take for granted. Another large group received their gifts thankfully, and then surprised us with a request. “Will you please pray for us?” With glad, humble hearts we bowed our heads and led them in a simple prayer. Isaiah 59:1 says “Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:“ We clearly saw the need that night, both physical and spiritual. Our thanks go to our friends and sponsors, as well as the youth volunteers, without whom these dear ones would have faced a far more difficult winter’s night.

Fresh Vegetables and Fruit – May 2016

During the month of May, we have collected, sorted, allocated, and distributed more than 4600kg of fresh produce; fruits and vegetables! These healthy foods made their way into soup kitchens, quadriplegic centres, an orphanage, youth training homes, drug rehab institutions, community upliftment street outreaches, crèches, and dozens of individual food parcels! Thank you to you, our dear friends and sponsors, for your donations, which help towards petrol/storage costs, as well as giving in kind. Your generosity impacts many, many lives!

Shoes!

Hundreds of donated pairs of shoes were sorted, paired up, and set aside for both needy centres and individuals. With winter coming on, proper footwear is a must-have, and we pray that many will truly benefit from these shoes!

Meat & Eggs

This donation of hundreds of kilos of meat and many dozens of eggs went to centres and feeding schemes all around Cape Town; benefiting young and old(er).

Vegetables for Startup Soup Kitchen

Here you see Anthony and Mike with hundreds of kilos of vegetables that we brought to a new soup kitchen. This project feeds local children and adults several days a week, and the township chief and his organizers were greatly thankful for the help.

Credit Where Credit is Due – Nurses Day

For Nurses Day today, we brought chocolates and handwritten notes to dozens of nurses at local clinics. These dear ones labour long hours and process a huge number of patients, many of whom need comfort, counsel, or special care. Yet they continue on cheerfully and faithfully, helping those who can’t help themselves. The surprise and thankfulness on their faces as they received their “Nurses Day Appreciation” was truly satisfying!

Schoolbags and Educational Materials

Each child at this underprivileged creche was so excited to get their own school backpack! The teachers also thrilled to the various educational materials and posters we brought. Upliftment through education is much more lasting, and we are proud to be a part of changing these little one’s lives for the better!
